Winter and snow, which was still lying in a thick layer a few days ago, are hellebores, bravely blooming in the flower beds of the Theatre of Flowers.
White hellebore in the area of its original occurrence, i.e. in the south of Europe, was already used by the ancient Greeks. Hellebore flowers, called Christrose, are a symbol of Christmas in our western neighbours, they often appear on postcards, napkins or candles. According to one legend, the poor shepherd went to a stable in Bethlehem. He was sad because he had no gifts for the child, and because of that he wept. Suddenly, white flowers grew on the road, beautiful as roses. They were hellebores.
The gardens were created as part of the project: "Conservation and restoration of the fourteenth-century castle in Lidzbark Warmiński – pearls of Gothic architecture in Poland – stage III" co-financed by funds received from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA funds, from the state budget and co-financed by the Local Government of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
