Letter in a bottle from 1928
On Tuesday, June 30 this year, a worker working on the renovation of the façade of the turret in the north-west corner of the Lidzbark castle, found a bottle with a letter. It was embedded in the western wall of the turret, in a small niche covered with a movable half of a brick.
A green beer bottle from St. George's brewery in Lidzbark contained a roll of paper. It is a letter written on July 4, 1928 by a masonry and carpentry team working on the renovation of the castle. It lists 12 workers by name, place of origin and age. The oldest was 51 years old, the youngest 19. In the descriptive part, the m.in rate per hour of work was given, and it was 94 pfennigs.
The letter together with the bottle was handed over to the Paper and Leather Conservation Workshop of the State Archives in Olsztyn. After conservation and development, the objects will go to the exhibition "Construction History of the Lidzbark Castle", which is being prepared at the castle in Lidzbark Warmiński.
